Benefits of Joining the Academy of Africana Indigenous Religions, Theology and Arts
Membership is open to scholars, researchers and practitioners of indigenous religions of Africa (IRA) working in the fields of African Indigenous Religions within Global Africa. Scholars in the study of relevant disciplines who are appointed at an academic institution in Africa may also apply for membership.
Membership Admission
Applicants will be admitted after they have completed the Academy of Africana Indigenous Religions, Theology and Arts Membership Form at its website, been subjected to thorough evaluation and have paid the annual membership fee to be determined by the Annual General Assembly. Their application should also show necessary qualifications.
Membership Fees/ Donations
Members are to pay annual fees as fixed by the Executive Committee. With the approval of the Annual General Assembly. There are no membership fees for students and the non-salaried members, such as Emeriti. Members may make a donation of any amount, either as a one off or on a regular basis. The proceeds of dues, bequests and donations will be used to cover the costs of the Newsletters, the website and the e-journal and other expenses as determined by the Executive Committee.
Membership Termination
Membership is terminated by(1) Failure to pay two consecutive membership fees. Following the Treasurer’s invitation to all members in January to pay the membership fee for the upcoming year, the Treasurer will send out a reminder in April to those who have not yet paid. Those who still have not paid by July 1st will receive a second and last reminder informing them that they will be deregistered on 1st January of the following year, if they have not paid both the arrears and current dues by then.
(2) A notice of termination of membership sent by an Academy of Africana Indigenous Religions, Theology and Arts member to the General Secretary, Academy of Africana Indigenous Religions, Theology and Arts Representative, regional or national, and/or Academy of Africana Indigenous Religions, Theology and Arts Officer maintaining the Academy of Africana Indigenous Religions, Theology and Arts Register of Members
(3) Death
(4) a decision of the Academy of Africana Indigenous Religions, Theology and Arts Executive on grounds, made explicit in an electronic or written message, that the member has acted in gross ways against the aims or interests of the Academy of Africana Indigenous Religions, Theology and Arts or has failed to comply with statutory obligations.
